Russian grain harvest forecast at 140 mln tonnes in 2026, oilseed at 35 mln tonnes - deputy PM

MOSCOW. Oct 2 (Interfax) - Russia's grain and legume harvest for 2026 is forecast at 140 million tonnes, with the oilseed harvest at 35 million tonnes, while 126 million tonnes of grain and 15 million tonnes of oilseed have been harvested so far, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev said.

"We are moving swiftly into the final stage of the harvest campaign. To date, grain crops have been threshed from 90% of planted area and over 126 million tonnes have been harvested. Other crops are also being harvested actively. At present, we have 15 million tonnes of oilseed crops and almost 4.5 million tonnes of both vegetables and potatoes in the organized sector. The crop yield across most categories is above that of last year," Patrushev is quoted by his press service as saying at a meeting on the progress of seasonal field work on Friday.

He said that considering these rates and volumes, "harvest forecasts for the main crop types will be confirmed by a real-life result". "We are expecting around 140 million tonnes of grain and 35 million tonnes of oilseed," Patrushev said.

He also said that winter crop sowing was already past the halfway point and the area covered had already exceeded half of what was planned. "But in spite of this, I ask that regional governments be highly attentive in monitoring winter sowing trends. This applies in particular to the grain category. I would like you to pay special attention to this as a separate matter," he said.

"On the whole, see to it that all plans are executed in full. Winter crops are the basis for the next year's harvest. You all know that. Farmers should be provided with the necessary resources," Patrushev said.

As reported, Rosstat data show that 141.2 million tonnes of grain was harvested in 2025 and 34.4 million tonnes of oilseed, excluding the new regions.

The Russian Economy Development Ministry forecasts the 2026 harvest at 141.8 million tonnes.
