Azerbaijan supplies 700 mcm of gas to Greece in Jan-Aug 2026
BAKU. Oct 1 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan exported around 700 million cubic meters of natural gas to Greece in January-August 2026, the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry said.
"In 2025, 1.1 billion cubic meters were supplied to Greece, and in the eight months of the current year around 700 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas [were supplied]," the ministry said.
These figures were given at the sixth meeting of the joint commission on cooperation in the economic, industrial and technological spheres between the Azerbaijani and Greek governments, held in Athens under the co-chairmanship of Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and the Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis.
"Since the commissioning of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), a total of 6 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas has been supplied to Greece, and 61.4 billion cubic meters to European countries," the ministry said.
The strategic role of the Southern Gas Corridor and the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector in strengthening Europe's energy security and diversifying gas supplies was noted at the meeting.
The parties discussed opportunities for increasing mutual investments, developing direct ties between the private sectors and implementing joint projects, as well as cooperation in green energy, electricity infrastructure, regional energy connections, energy efficiency and hydrogen.
Supplies of Azerbaijani gas to three European countries - Greece, Italy and Bulgaria - via the TAP gas pipeline were launched on December 31, 2020.
Azerbaijan has gas supply agreements with 16 countries, including 13 in Europe. Long-term contracts with fixed supply amounts have been signed with Italy, Greece and Bulgaria, and a ten-year contract has been signed with Germany's SEFE (Securing Energy for Europe), with annual amounts gradually increasing to 15 TWh or around 1.5 bcm. Contracts without exact purchase amounts have been concluded with the remaining countries.
On June 1, the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) and AASS (Autonoma di Stato per i Servizi Pubblici) signed an agreement providing for gas sales to San Marino. According to the document, gas supplies will begin in October this year.
Azerbaijan also exports gas to Turkey via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP), and to Georgia via the SCP and Hajigabul-Gazakh pipeline.
In addition, Azerbaijan began exporting gas to Syria in August 2025. At the initial stage, the supply volume is 3.4 mcm per day with a subsequent increase to 6 mcm.
