MOSCOW. Oct 1 (Interfax) - The United Kingdom has extended permission for the maritime transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Sakhalin 2 project (main shareholder: Gazprom ) to Japan and South Korea until March 31, 2028, according to a statement from the Office of Trade Sanctions Implementation (OTSI).

As part of Sakhalin-2, the Piltun-Astokhskoye and Lunskoye fields of the Sakhalin offshore shelf are being developed. The LNG plant of the Sakhalin-2 project in Prigorodnoye (southern Sakhalin) was commissioned in February 2009, and in 2010 reached full design capacity - 9.6 million tonnes of LNG per year. Subsequently, an optimization program allowed its productivity to be increased, and it produced 10.3 million tonnes in 2025. The operator of the project is Sakhalin Energy LLC, whose co-owners are Gazprom, Mitsui and Mitsubishi.
