Russia increases output in key economic sectors 0.9% in Aug, 0.2% in 8M - Rosstat

MOSCOW. Sept 30 (Interfax) - Russia increased output of goods and services in key economic sectors by 0.9% year-on-year in August 2026, following an increase of 0.8% in July and 1.8% in June, a decline of 0.5% in May, growth of 1.2% in April and 1.6% in March, a decline of 2.3% in February, and 3% in January, Rosstat said on Wednesday.

The index is calculated based on data on changes in the physical volume of agricultural production, industrial production, construction, cargo transportation and retail and wholesale trade.

Output in key sectors increased 0.2% YoY in January-August 2026.

Industrial production in Russia fell by 0.6% YoY in August 2026, after growing 0.4% in July. It had zero growth for the first eight months.

Cargo transportation increased 4.2% YoY in August 2026, after growing 1.6% in July. It grew 0.2% in 8M.

Retail trade grew 3.3% YoY in August, following growth of 5.3% in July, with a 5.1% increase in January-August. Wholesale trade declined 0.5% in August, after increasing 0.4% in July. It grew 0.7% in 8M.

Agricultural production increased 6.6% YoY in August and fell 4.1% in July, while it grew 1.2% in 8M.

The volume of construction work completed rose 2.7% in August compared with a 0.8% increase in July. It fell 2.9% in 8M due to a slump at the beginning of the year.

In 2025, output across Russia's key economic sectors grew 1.3%.
