FMs from CIS countries to discuss multifaceted cooperation at meeting in Turkmenistan - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 30 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will take part in a meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers' Council in Turkmenistan's Awaza on October 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"The foreign ministers will review preliminary results of the organization's activities for the current year and discuss prospects for developing multifaceted cooperation within the commonwealth framework. They'll pay particular attention to the 35th anniversary of the CIS marked this year, in 2026," Zakharova said at a news briefing on Wednesday.

The meeting participants "will exchange views on pressing issues on the regional and international agenda," she said.

"They are expected to adopt a number of decisions to enhance cooperation in the cultural, humanitarian, and law enforcement fields and improve foreign policy coordination within the CIS," Zakharova said.

The ministers also intend to approve a plan for multi-level inter-ministerial consultations for 2027 and agree on the date and venue for the next meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers' Council, she said.

"As per tradition, most of the approved documents will be forwarded for subsequent consideration by the CIS Council of Heads of State, which is scheduled for October 9 also in Turkmenistan's Awaza center, and by the CIS Council of Heads of Government, which is to meet in Moscow in December 2026," she said.
