Azerbaijan, China establish joint investment fund with $1 bln

BAKU. Sept 30 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan Investment Holding (AIH) and China's Silk Road Fund (SRF) have established a joint investment fund of aroung $1 billion, AIH said.

"The investment fund totals 7.5 billion yuan, approximately $1 billion, and is allocated to finance projects in Azerbaijan, as well as in other countries in China's 'Belt and Road' initiative," according to the statement.

Establishing the investment fund was announced at the second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum late last week, according to the press release.

The new fund should deliver additional opportunities to expand investment collaboration between the parties and attract long-term capital for various projects.

AIH and SRF signed the joint investment fund in April 2025.

Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and Deputy Head of Silk Road Fund and member of the investment committee Si Xinbo in Baku in March this year discussed setting up the joint fund.

AIH was established in August 2020. In February 2021, a number of state-owned companies and enterprises, as well as business entities with government equity participation, were transferred to the holding's management. The government funds the operations.

The Silk Road Fund's website indicates that it was established in 2014 as a medium- to long-term equity investment fund to support developing the Belt and Road Initiative. Investments span Southeast, South, Central, and West Asia, North Africa, and Europe, in a wide range including infrastructure, energy and resources, industrial cooperation, financial collaboration, and sustainable development.
