Belarusian president announces agreement with Putin to construct nitrogen plant, proposes involving the U.S

MINSK. Sept 29 (Interfax) - Gazprom plans to join a project to construct a nitrogen fertilizer plant in Belarus, and the United States could also be involved, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.

"We have agreed with Vladimir Vladimirovich [Russian President Putin] that Gazprom would join the project to construct a nitrogen fertilizer plant here. We should make an offer to the Americans. They want fertilizer, including nitrogen fertilizer, so, let's build it together, using your technology; you [the US], Gazprom, and Belarus," Lukashenko said on Tuesday during a meeting in Minsk with Alexei Russkikh, the governor of Russia's Ulyanovsk Region, as quoted by the BelTA state news agency .

"We have already selected a site, and all of the utility infrastructure is set. If not, then we could build it with Gazprom and the Russians and sell the finished product," Lukashenko said.
