Russia boosts exports of frozen Kamchatka crabs to Japan 5% to 2,100 tonnes in 8M 2026 - Fish Union
MOSCOW. Sept 29 (Interfax) - Russia supplied 2,100 tonnes of frozen Kamchatka crabs to Japan in 8M 2026, up 5% year-on-year, while export revenue grew 20% to $72 million, the Fish Union said, based on an analysis of Japanese customs statistics.
Exports of frozen opilio snow crab turned out to be larger - at 6,000 tonnes worth $108 million. The union did not provide the dynamics for this indicator.
Russian crab fishermen had caught 70,000 tonnes of crabs by September 21, up 8% from a year earlier, the union said.
In total, Russian exports of fish and seafood to Japan amounted to 66,000 tonnes worth $522 million in January-August 2026.
"Russia ranks sixth in the world in terms of supplies of fish and seafood to Japan (after China, Chile, the United States, Vietnam and Thailand) with a share of about 6% in weight and money," the union said.
