Decree on terms of payment for Russian gas extended to April 1, 2027

MOSCOW. Sept 29 (Interfax) - The presidential decree specifying the terms of payment for Russian gas has been extended for another six months to April 1, 2027.

This refers to decree No. 172, dated March 31, 2022, "On the special procedure for foreign buyers to fulfil obligations to Russian suppliers of natural gas."

This decree initially stipulated that payment had to be made only through Gazprombank (GPB) , but at the end of 2024 it was amended, replacing the phrase "authorized bank," meaning GPB, with "Russian credit institution," meaning any Russian bank. Acceptance of payment this way was initially allowed for the period to the end of the first quarter of 2025, and then extended several times.

The new presidential decree on the extension, No. 701 dated September 28, 2026, was published on the official website for legal information.

Commenting on the decree amendment earlier, GPB said the extension "has been granted with the aim of obtaining the necessary licenses or lifting the restrictions on working with the authorized bank - Gazprombank - in this period."
