Russia's energy consumption down 0.2% since start of year

MOSCOW/SOCHI. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Electricity consumption in Russia has declined 0.2% since the beginning of the year, the head of the System Operator, Fyodor Opadchy, told journalists on the sidelines of the Market Council conference.

"We are also currently at minus 0.2%," Opadchy said in response to a corresponding question about the current dynamics of energy consumption in Russia.

Opadchy reported a decline of 0.1% in consumption in early September.

Energy consumption trends in Russia have been trending downward consistently since the beginning of 2026.

Energy consumption was 2.1% at the end of the first quarter, whereas the System Operator estimated year-to-date growth at 1.5% by mid-April. Increases of 1% were reported in late May, 0.9% in early June, and 0.4% in mid-July.

Electricity consumption in Russia's Unified Energy System declined 1.1% year-on-year to 1.161 trillion kWh in 2025.
