Voter turnout reaches 59.8% in State Duma elections - Russian CEC chair

MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) - The voter turnout in the ninth State Duma and accompanying elections of various levels reached 59.8%, Russian Central Elections Commission (CEC) Chair Ella Pamfilova said.

"Over 59.8% of voters, almost 60%, participated in the elections, and the exact number is 60,448,094 people. This is the record number in the past three parliament election campaigns," Pamfilova said at a CEC meeting, which summed up the outcome of the September 18-20 elections, on Friday.

"Despite everyday troubles caused by the sanctions, terrorist attack threats and drone strikes. Despite a number of restrictions resulting from various kinds of threats, despite of every foreign and domestic challenge, our remarkable people put all of that aside, rose above it, demonstrated the highest level of civil responsibility and took an interested and conscious part in the elections, which are so important to Russia. We thank them very much," she said.
