Kyrgyz, Russian deputy PMs discuss creating agricultural processing JVs

BISHKEK. Sept 21 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister Erlist Akunbekov has discussed agricultural cooperation with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev during his working visit to Russia, the Kyrgyz government's press service said on Saturday.

The two sides noted the need for a transition away from trade to production, it said. In this context, they stressed the importance of creating joint processing enterprises, developing the logistics and warehouse infrastructure, as well as packaging in accordance with international standards.

Akunbekov proposed developing new joint bilateral projects on comprehensive cooperation on fisheries, agricultural product processing, and expanding the volume of exports of Kyrgyz-made products to the Russian market.

The meeting concluded with the sides agreeing to work out joint roadmaps for fisheries projects.

According to statistical data, in 2025 bilateral trade in agricultural and processed products totaled $652.3 million, an increase of $88.5 million compared with 2024.
