Switzerland follows EU by introducing additional sanctions against Belarus

PARIS. Sept 18 (Interfax) - The Federal Council of Switzerland has introduced restrictions established by the European Union against Belarus for supporting Russia in the conflict with Ukraine, the agency said in a press release.

"With effect from September 19, the Federal Council is adopting the remaining measures imposed by the EU on April 23, thereby aligning the sanctions regime against Belarus more closely with that applied to Russia," the document said.

The new measures include expansion of the ban on "economically significant goods that generate substantial export revenues for Belarus," it said.

The additional restrictions will concern "certain cryptocurrencies and central bank digital currencies including the Belarusian digital ruble," it said.

The measures will now be "in line with the sanctions against Russia," it said.

The press release also mentions the expansion of the ban on the provision of some services: it will now affect both state agencies and private Belarusian companies and security services. It is also prohibited to provide services concerning the tourism sphere in Belarus.
