Georgia suspends air services with Iran in accordance with international sanctions - PM

TBILISI. Sept 17 (Interfax) - Georgia is joining international sanctions against Iran and suspending air services with that country, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

"Georgia always takes sanctions regimes in relation to one country or another into account. We also adopted a corresponding decision in relation to Iran, and the Economy Ministry issued a statement on this matter," Kobakhidze said.

Georgia is not establishing any bilateral sanctions against Iran, as "that would be wrong and absurd," he said.

"We act in accordance with the established international sanctions regime," he said.

Such an approach was also used in relation to Russia, when Georgia did not introduce bilateral sanctions, he said.

"This is our general policy; we do not establish bilateral sanctions against neighboring countries, but we take into account international sanctions regimes," he said.
