Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan plan to introduce seamless transit in freight road transportation

TASHKENT. Sept 15 (Interfax) - Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have agreed to create a joint working group to introduce a seamless transit mechanism in freight transportation by road, the Uzbek Transport Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the two countries' mixed commission on international road transportation held a meeting in Samarkand. The meeting was held under the leadership of Uzbek First Deputy Transport Minister Mamanbiy Omarov and Kazakh Deputy Transport Minister Maksat Kaliakparov.

"The meeting discussed the development of international transport links and the expansion of freight and passenger transportation. Improving the permit system and developing transport potential were also touched upon. The parties agreed to establish a working group on introducing the seamless transit mechanism. It will make it possible to simplify transit procedures, reduce administrative barriers and move to electronic document flow," the ministry said.

In addition, the transport agencies preliminarily agreed on introducing electronic permit forms for irregular passenger transportation by road. The system will start operating in 2027.

Particular attention was paid to developing road transport infrastructure and improving the efficiency of transport control. As a result of the meeting, the parties adopted a decision to ensure the agreements' practical implementation.
