Trade in fish products between Russia, BRICS rises 1.4-fold to $3.1 bln in 7M - Fish Union

MOSCOW. Sept 11 (Interfax) - Trade in fish products between Russia and the BRICS countries jumped 1.4-fold year-on-year to $3.1 billion and 14% year-on-year to 891,000 tonnes in 7M 2026, the Fish Union reports, citing an analysis of foreign customs statistics.

"China accounts for over 96% of the volume and more than 94% of the value of Russia's total fish and seafood trade with BRICS nations. Russia primarily supplies the Chinese market with products made from pollock, cod, crab, herring, and flounder. Imports from China include frozen mackerel and mussels, trout, saury, roasted eel fillets, canned tuna and tuna fillets, and dried squid," according to the statement.

India is second among BRICS nations for importing fish product from Russia at 1.3% by volume and 2.7% by value. Russia imports warm-water, farmed white tiger shrimp from India and exports brine shrimp, starter feed for shrimp larvae, to the country.

Iran is third at 1.9% and 1.7%, respectively. Russian imports include warm-water, farmed white tiger shrimp and frozen farmed trout. South Africa primarily imports oysters, while Russia exports pollock fillets and pollock surimi to the market. Russia also exports pollock and cod products to Brazil.

As for other countries, warm-water, farmed white tiger shrimp and octopus are imported from Indonesia. Exports from Russia to that country include crab, frozen pollock, sockeye salmon, cold-water shrimp, and pollock roe. Russia imports oysters, frozen tuna fillets, lobsters, langoustines, spiny lobsters, and warm-water, farmed white tiger shrimp from the United Arab Emirates, while exporting crab, sea urchins, salmon roe, sockeye salmon fillets, and dried pink salmon to the UAE. There is currently no trade in fish and seafood with Ethiopia.
