Baku, EU discuss South Caucasus peace, stability

BAKU. Sept 10 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus Magdalena Grono to discuss bilateral relations and regional stability, a statement on the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry website said on Thursday.

The two sides discussed EU-Azerbaijan relations, their development prospects, the regional situation and the issues of South Caucasus peace and stability. "Separately, they noted the importance of high-level visits and contacts for developing the Azerbaijan-EU cooperation. The discussion also involved developing the relations' legal and institutional framework, concluding the talks over a document on bilateral partnership priorities, and the prospects of negotiating a new bilateral agreement," the statement said.

Bayramov noted steps to strengthen peace and confidence between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The sides noted the importance of the August meeting of the two countries' leaders in Bishkek for advancing the regional peace agenda, the statement said.

The sides exchanged views on energy, communications and other bilateral and regional issues, it said.
