Sberbank discussing supply of medical technology solutions to markets in Asia, Middle East

NEW DELHI. Sept 10 (Interfax) - Sberbank is discussing potentially supplying medical technology solutions to markets in Asia and the Middle East, Sergei Zhdanov, director of the bank's Health Industry Center, told reporters.

"We currently have only preliminary agreements on the Asian market. We are in the final stages of signing a major contract for 30,000 units in the United Arab Emirates. These are devices, as well as a comprehensive technology solution. Saudi Arabia is also showing keen interest. Although they have already implemented a solution from our competitors, ours offers greater accuracy in certain metrics," Zhdanov told reporters on the sidelines of the Innoprom India forum.

Zhdanov noted that the product in question is GigaDoc, an AI-powered service from SberMedAI, part of Sberbank's health division, which assesses an individual's health status via video analysis of the person's face.

Zhdanov added that there is also demand for this service in Russia.

SberMedAI previously reported that it has been developing new AI products since 2026 for entry to the international market. The company had previously noted that it has held talks with potential software clients in India, Madagascar, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. International expansion was one of the measures taken to steer SberMedAI toward profitability, with the company having cut net loss to Russian Accounting Standards 50% to 224 million rubles in 2025.

Zhdanov emphasized that the company has already become profitable and that revenue is growing partly on the back of international business.

"However, not solely owing to international contracts. Overall, we are still testing the waters of the market. I think that we should unveil a really impressive solution next year," he added.

SberMedAI is currently focusing on development and has no plans for an IPO of its assets, Zhdanov said.

"It is clear that it is too soon for SberMedAI to launch an IPO. SberMedAI is essentially a venture-backed company that is still seeking its market. Unfortunately, the AI-in-healthcare business in Russia is extremely challenging, and it requires massive investment in R&D," he said.

"A spin-off could be an interesting move in the near future, though the entire focus is currently on the company's development," Zhdanov added.
