Tajikistan seeks to build knowledge-based economy, deploy AI on large scale by 2050 - Rahmon

DUSHANBE. Sept 10 (Interfax) - Tajikistan aims to establish a knowledge-based economy, ensure the widespread development of digital technologies, and deploy artificial intelligence (AI) on a large scale by 2050, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said at a ceremonial event marking the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan's state independence.

Tajikistan marks State Independence Day on September 9.

The use of modern technologies and AI has been identified as a priority of state policy, Rahmon said.

The number of general education institutions in Tajikistan has grown from 3,229 in 1991 to 4,056 in 2026, with the student population reaching 2.46 million. The number of higher vocational education institutions increased from 13 in 1992 to 51 in 2026, while the number of students rose from 70,600 to 226,000, he said.

Currently, more than 41,000 Tajik young citizens are studying abroad, and over 6,000 are sent annually to higher education institutions in highly developed countries, Rahmon said.

There are currently 7,000 scientists holding academic degrees and titles in the country, he said.

The development of science and education, especially the exact sciences, modern technologies, and innovation, will be crucial for the country's future development, Rahmon said.
