Russia increases fertilizer exports to India 20% in H1, ready continue deliveries - first deputy PM
MOSCOW. Sept 9 (Interfax) - Russia has further increased fertilizer shipments to India this year, despite all difficulties, and is prepared to continue to meet this country's demand for sought-after types of mineral fertilizer, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said in an interview with Interfax ahead of the Innoprom. India trade fair.
"Last year Russian producers supplied about 6 million tonnes of mineral fertilizer to Indian partners. This is a sixfold increase in five years. There was a positive dynamic for phosphate, nitrogen and compound NPK fertilizers. The trend is continuing this year - deliveries increased by another 20% in the first half of the year compared to the same period of 2025," Manturov said.
Russian "companies are prepared to continue to meet India's demand for sought-after types of fertilizer, including by creating joint production facilities," he said. "Such projects are already being explored," Manturov added.
At the end of 2025 it was reported that Russia's Uralchem and India's Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited, National Fertilizers Limited and Indian Potash Limited signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of a urea plant in Russia that would use feedstock from Uralchem's Togliattiazot.
President Vladimir Putin also said recently at a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Moscow that Russia intends to continue increasing fertilizer supplies to Indian farmers.
"We're doing everything to close this issue for Indian farmers, for agriculture. We're increasing these supplies and are prepared to continue to do this," Putin said in August.
India increased imports of Russian fertilizer by 41% to 6.5 million tonnes in 2025, data from the country's Trade and Industry Ministry showed. India's total fertilizer imports grew by 45% to over 27.4 million tonnes. Russia was the biggest supplier, followed by China, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Oman.
