Tajik authorities expect GDP growth to accelerate to 8.8% in 2029

DUSHANBE. Sept 7 (Interfax) - The Tajik government intends to achieve consistent acceleration of economic growth over the next three years, from 8.4% in 2027 to 8.6% in 2028 and 8.8% in 2029, according to the government-approved forecast of key macroeconomic indicators for 2027-2029.

In accordance with the target forecast, inflation in this period will remain at 3.8%-4% per year.

According to the authorities' forecast, annual growth in industrial production will be at least 25% over the next three years, while the rate of increase in agricultural production may slightly decrease from 8.6% in 2027 to 8.2% in 2029.

Investments in fixed capital in 2027 will grow 18.8%, then a slowdown in the growth rate is expected to 14.4% and 15.4% in 2028 and 2029, respectively.

The Tajik authorities expect that the inflow of foreign investment will increase to $8.56 billion (including $685 million in direct investment) next year, $9.6 billion ($820 million) in 2028 and $10.8 billion ($995 million) in 2029.

In foreign trade, a deficit of $5.4-$5.5 billion per year will persist in the forecast period, with exports averaging around $3 billion and imports of $8.4-$8.5 billion.

The Tajik government expects economic growth of 8.5% in 2026. Tajikistan's GDP grew 8.4% in 2025, the same as in 2024. GDP grew 8.2% in H1 2026.
