Central Bank of Russia will take into account latest statistics in Sept, current economic situation better than expected, but more data needed - Tremasov

VLADIVOSTOK. Sept 1 (Interfax) - The Central Bank of Russia will take into account the latest statistics at its September meeting and the data published on the coming Wednesday will have a significant influence, Advisor to the CBR Governor Kirill Tremasov said.

"To be honest, it is unlikely that I'll give you a new signal. The thing is that we will have a very important set of data tomorrow. And these data can probably have a more significant impact on the sentiments of the participants of the discussion, the round," Tremasov told journalists on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.

On Wednesday, Rosstat will publish a report containing data on retail trade in July, investments in the second quarter, the financial results of companies for the first half, business activity in August and weekly inflation, including gasoline prices. The Economy Development Ministry will also publish its estimate of Russia's GDP for July and the CBR will publish new data from a macroeconomic survey of analysts, the news-based business activity index and the regional economies report.

"In tomorrow's statistics, it will be very important to understand overall economic activity, how it is working out. From what we got after July [the board meeting], the surprise was the high figures for the second quarter - the GDP estimate from Rosstat. Economic activity can be said to be slightly above what it was in July, but I wouldn't make that my final conclusion either, because the statistics we get tomorrow will also play a role. If they are just as positive, then it will probably be possible to record and confirm this conclusion. Right now, I am not sure about this conclusion," Tremasov said.

Rosstat has reported that Russia's GDP increased 1.3% year-on-year in Q2 2026 according to preliminary data, after decreasing 0.2% in Q1.

Tremasov said that lending to the economy and monetary aggregates had also undergone a greater increase.

He said that the CBR would not receive inflation data for August before its board meeting on September 11 and would receive them only in the evening. "Unfortunately, we will only receive the full August statistics on the evening of September 11, i.e. after the board meeting. And this is actually another one of the nuances which will need to be taken into account," Tremasov said.
