Polyplastic, Lukoil to launch plastic pipe JV with capacity of 500 km/year in Q4

MOSCOW. Sept 1 (Interfax) - Polyplastic Group, one of Russia's largest plastic pipe manufacturers, expects to start construction in the fourth quarter of 2026 on a pipe plant in Egypt to supply Russian state corporation Rosatom's El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project, Polyplastic Group chairman Lev Gorilovsky said in an interview with Interfax.

"We will participate in the production of large four-meter pipe for deep-water wastewater outlets in Egypt, at the El Dabaa plant. The overall deadline for implementing this project is by the end of 2028, but pipe production is supposed to already be launched in the middle of 2027, and we're working on this with an Egyptian partner," Gorilovsky said.

The Rosatom project will ensure demand for Polyplastic's products for the next 18 months to two years. "Whether we'll be able to remain there after this as an Egyptian manufacturer is a big question," Gorilovsky said.

The company is prepared to operate on a similar model in other countries and is studying such opportunities at announced infrastructure projects.

"Any such plant, of course, needs anchor demand. And few partner countries are prepared to sign an offtake contract to guarantee acquisition. But if similar nuclear plants or other facilities will be built in other countries, then, of course, with such anchor contracts we could set up production in these countries," Gorilovsky said.

The El Dabaa NPP project involves the construction of four generating units with capacity of 1,200 MW each. It was reported earlier that Rosatom expects to put the first unit into operation in 2028 and complete the project in 2030.

Polyplastic Group is one of the largest manufacturers of plastic pipes in Russia and the EAEU for external water supply and sewerage networks, gas distribution, hot water supply and heating. The group, which has 33 pipe factories in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, had revenue of 90.3 billion rubles in 2025.
