Uzbekistan's GDP could reach $300 bln by 2030 - president

TASHKENT. Aug 31 (Interfax) - Uzbekistan's GDP could reach $300 billion by 2030, and foreign investment over the coming decade could total $450 billion, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of the republic's independence.

Mirziyoyev said Uzbekistan had set a target three years ago to raise GDP to $160 billion by 2030, but that would be exceeded this year. He said Uzbekistan would join the group of upper-middle-income countries.

Mirziyoyev said the country planned to seven national programs to achieve these goals.

The first focuses on developing education and professional skills, and the second on improving life expectancy and quality of life. Public spending on healthcare should increase to 5% of GDP within five years.

The third program will see a transition to a high-tech, high-productivity economy. It plans to create a pathway for small businesses to transition into medium-sized businesses, and medium-sized businesses into large companies and corporations. Per capita GDP is expected to increase to over $10,000 within the next ten years.

The fourth program will improve water conservation and environmental protection. Specifically, water-saving technologies will be used on all cultivated land within five years.

The fifth program will aim to strengthen the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law.

The mahalla, Uzbekistan's neighborhood-based system of local community organization, is also set to play a greater role according to the sixth program. State programs, budgets, investment programs and district infrastructure projects will increasingly be based on requests and priorities identified at the mahalla level.

The seventh program focuses on strengthening Uzbekistan's international standing.

The Uzbek government in July increased its GDP growth forecast for 2026 to 8.1% from 6.6%.

The president's previous goal of increasing Uzbekistan's GDP to $240 billion by 2030 envisaged economic growth of 8%-9% per year.

Uzbekistan's GDP grew 8.5% in the first half of 2026 and 7.7% in 2025.
