Russia's updated automotive industry strategy to 2035 targets output of 2.8 mln vehicles per year - first dep PM Manturov

MOSCOW. Aug 31 (Interfax) - The Russian government's updated automotive industry development strategy, extended to 2035, includes a target scenario for reaching annual production of 2.8 million vehicles by 2035, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said.

"In the target scenario, we expect to reach production of approximately 2.8 million vehicles per year by 2035. We plan to increase the share of Russian products in the 'new' domestic automotive market to 80%. The remainder will be imported to maintain competition and demand diversity in individual segments," Manturov said at a meeting between Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and deputy prime ministers.

The State Statistics Service (Rosstat) has said Russia produced 673,000 passenger cars in 2025, down 11.8% from 2024, as well as 131,000 trucks, down 32.6%, and 9,400 large buses, down 38.4%.
