Construction work on TRIPP project in Armenia to begin either in late 2026 or early 2027 - Aliyev
BAKU. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Construction work on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project in Armenia will begin in late 2026 or early 2027, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.
Work on the Zangezur Corridor is currently actively underway in Azerbaijani territory, Aliyev said at the third meeting of the Azerbaijani-Uzbek Supreme Interstate Council in Tashkent on August 23, which was attended by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. "The project will be completed in the main part of Azerbaijan next year. Work has also begun in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic," he said.
The conceptual approach is to consider the Nakhchivan Railway as part of the Azerbaijan Railways, Aliyev said. The president said that, in this context, there are plans to set up an international consortium involving companies and countries keen on making investment, yielding corresponding profits, and guaranteed transportation volumes along this route.
"For your information, I would like to say that work is also underway in Armenia [on the TRIPP project], and our American partners regularly inform us about this. As far as we have been told, construction will begin in Armenia either at the end of this year or early next year. However, its length there is only 42 kilometers, while in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic it is 194 kilometers. Truly, that's why we have started this work, and we will carry it out in any case. But given that we know there is interest from various companies, I would simply like to inform you that there is an opportunity, should such interest be shown, to join the proposed consortium," Aliyev added.
He also said that Azerbaijan is also building from scratch and refurbishing a section of the existing railway from Baku to the Armenian border at a stretch of approximately 400 kilometers. The Nakhchivan section of this line is nearly 200 kilometers long. This will become a major extension of the Middle Corridor.
