Kyrgyz govt plans to allocate nearly $420 mln to stabilize prices, curb inflation in country

BISHKEK. Aug 21 (Interfax) - In total, 36.6 billion som ($418.5 million) will be allocated to stabilize prices and contain inflation in Kyrgyzstan, the Kyrgyz government press service said in a statement on Friday.

A meeting chaired by Kyrgyz First Deputy Prime Minister Daniyar Amangeldiyev was held to review and submit for approval the concept of a draft action plan to stabilize price hikes for goods and services for 2026-2027.

The plan includes a set of specific and urgent measures aimed at curbing inflation, ensuring the affordability and accessibility of socially important goods, ramping up domestic production, and tightening the country's food security.

The plan calls for increasing domestic meat production, monitoring meat prices by the state, supporting the agricultural sector and subsidizing the dairy and poultry sectors, as well as building modern warehouse facilities with a total capacity of 18,000 tonnes in all seven regions of Kyrgyzstan.

Furthermore, the government intends to reduce intermediary chains and develop direct supplies of agricultural products by expanding the network of retail outlets operating without intermediaries.

"The implementation of the planned set of measures will help keep inflation within the target range agreed upon with the National Bank at 7%. The total funding for the measures approved for 2026-2027 will stand at 36.63 billion som," the statement said.
