Uzbekistan launches 20 MW wind farm with Chinese support

TASHKENT. Aug 21 (Interfax) - Uzbekistan has put the 20 MW Chorbog wind farm in the Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region into operation, the country's Energy Ministry reported.

"The Chorbog wind farm is completely ready for operation and is being launched for the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence. This project is another result of the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and China," the ministry said.

The government of China provided $28 million in interest-free grant financing for the project.

The facility has four installed wind turbines with capacity of 5 MW each and is expected to generate up to 50 million kWh of electricity annually, which the ministry said is enough to power about 20,000 households.

The operation of the wind farm will make it possible to save tens of thousands of cubic meters of natural gas annually and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the ministry said.
