VTB launches QR code payments in Thailand
MOSCOW. Aug 19 (Interfax) - VTB has launched payment for goods and services via QR code in Thailand in its mobile application, the credit institution said in a statement.
Funds are debited from the client's ruble account, and the bank automatically converts them into the local currency - the Thai baht. No commission is charged for the payment, and the amount of a single transaction can be up to 113,000 rubles. The service can be used at all retail outlets in the country where QR code payment is available.
"Thailand is one of the most popular travel destinations for Russians, so launching QR code payments in the VTB Online app was a logical step for us. Now in any store, it is enough to simply scan the QR code through the banking app, and after a few seconds the payment will be successfully completed," VTB Senior Vice President and Retail Business Products Department head Alexei Okhorzin was quoted as saying.
VTB previously launched QR code payments in Vietnam, China, Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and other countries. The bank's clients can also send funds to more than 150 countries worldwide. Depending on the destination, transfers are available by card or phone number, by bank details, and also with the option of receiving cash.
