Shortage of petroleum products in Moldova persists, authorities cite disruptions in supply chains
CHISINAU. Aug 17 (Interfax) - The shortage of diesel fuel and gasoline at some filling stations in Moldova persists, and operators are trying to restore supplies in full, the Moldovan National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) said.
"As of August 17, 2025, 75 filling stations across the country have run out of diesel fuel, and 27 have run out of gasoline. However, compared to the previous week, the number of filling stations reporting a shortage of a certain type of product is decreasing," the ANRE said.
"The petroleum products market is still subject to the influence of international and regional events and volatility, which affect supply chains and product availability," it said.
At the same time, the ANRE said that the shortage of diesel fuel at a number of filling stations "is not capable of affecting the overall satisfaction of current needs."
"The ANRE confirms imports of petroleum products in recent days exceeding average daily consumption, which contributes to an increase in stocks and a gradual recovery of the situation," it said.
There are around 600 filling stations operating in Moldova, operated by more than 200 licensed companies.
At the end of July, the Moldovan government restricted the export and re-export of petroleum products as part of the state of heightened alert in the energy sector, introduced on July 28 for a period of 30 days. Rationing of diesel fuel sales to the country's population has also been introduced. In parallel, economic and organizational measures are envisaged to stimulate the import of petroleum products.
The state of heightened alert in the energy sector was introduced due to the shortage and rise in price of petroleum products in Moldova caused by problems with regional logistics and the conflict in the Middle East.
