MOSCOW. Aug 13 (Interfax) - Russia welcomes Indian investment in its oil and gas sector and is willing to develop a distribution network in India, the Russian government said in a statement, quoting Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

"Russia is interested in attracting Indian investment to the Russian oil and gas sector, as well as in developing a distribution network with the participation of Russian companies in India. Relations between the two countries have the nature of a strategic partnership, and their leaders are in constant contact. Mutually beneficial cooperation in oil and gas projects is promoted actively," Novak said.

India will be the Russian Energy Week international forum's first ever official partner country this year, Novak said. The Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry, representing the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, will have a stand at the forum to present current and future projects being carried out by the two countries.

The Russian Energy Week forum is scheduled for October 14-16.
