China's CSCEC International could build 150 MW thermal power plant, battery energy storage system in Uzbekistan

BAKU. Aug 11 (Interfax) - China's CSCEC International has proposed building a 150 MW thermal power plant and a battery energy storage system (BESS) at JSC Uzbek Metallurgical Plant (UMK, Uzmetkombinat), Uzbekistan's biggest steel producer, UMK said in a statement.

"UMK's CEO, Bakhodir Abdullayev, held talks in Beijing with the management of CSCEC International. Central to the talks was the construction of a modern 150 MW thermal power plant on the plant's premises. The Chinese company presented its proposals for the construction of the power plant," UMK said.

Proposals were also aired for the supply, installation and commissioning of a modern BESS for the plant.

"These two areas are strategically importance for the plant's future energy system. The 150 MW TPP would significantly increase the company's ability to ensure a stable power supply, while the BESS would store electricity, transmit it to the grid when needed, and manage energy loads effectively," UMK said.

The parties discussed the technical and economic aspects of the project, prospects for using modern technologies, improving energy efficiency and establishing long-term investment cooperation.

UMK is Uzbekistan's largest state-owned steel producer. It produces long and flat steel products, as well as grinding balls, supplying product to the domestic and foreign markets.
