Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan switch to electronic transport documents, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan completing preparations - EEC

CHOLPON-ATA. Aug 7 (Interfax) - Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan have switched to using electronic transport documents, Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Board Chairman Bakytzhan Sagintayev told journalists following a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.

"Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia have already switched to electronic transport documents. The formation of the relevant regulatory framework is ongoing in Armenia and Kyrgyzstan," Sagintayev said.

The expansion of foreign trade requires the development of modern and reliable transport infrastructure, he said. Special attention was therefore paid at the intergovernmental council meeting to the digitalisation of freight railway transport.

"Today, 94% of railway transport between Russia and Belarus and 81% between Russia and Kazakhstan is being processed in this format. The work carried out has made it possible to move to freight traffic between Russia and China without the use of paper documents. In the future, the geography of such transportation will be gradually expanded. The introduction of digital tools simplifies procedures and reduces costs for businesses, ensuring the maximum acceleration of the movement of goods," Sagintayev said.
