Mishustin: EAEU needs to reduce dependence on imported seeds, food, feed additives, veterinary drugs

CHOLPON-ATA. Aug 7 (Interfax) - The list of agricultural products for which full self-sufficiency has been achieved within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) should be expanded, and for this purpose the countries of the union need to provide farmers with domestically made fertilizers, seeds, food and feed additives, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.

"It is also important to continue strengthening food security. The Eurasian Economic Union fully covers internal needs for grain, pork, poultry meat, milk, sugar, vegetable oils as a category, and eggs. We need to expand this list," Mishustin said at an expanded meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.

"To do this, it is necessary to provide farmers with the required seeds and effective fertilizers, and for the development of livestock farming, [with] safe food and feed additives and modern veterinary drugs. What is also very important is that they should be domestically made, in order to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers," Mishustin said.

He called on the EAEU partners "to more actively combine competencies in the agricultural sector."
