Tajikistan, Turkey interested in expanding investment cooperation

DUSHANBE. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Tajik Economic Development and Trade Minister Abdurahmonzoda Abdurahmon Safarali has held a meeting with the chairman of the Tajikistan-Turkey business council, Rushen Chetin, during which the prospects for expanding bilateral trade and economic and investment cooperation were discussed.

According to the Tajik Economic Development and Trade Ministry, the parties discussed attracting investment and strengthening direct ties between the two countries' business communities.

Thanks to the policies of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, bilateral trade and economic cooperation is developing consistently, Abdurahmonzoda said.

According to official information, trade turnover amounted to $445.8 million in 2024, up 22.8% compared to the previous year. At the same time, Tajikistan's exports reached $239.1 million, while imports from Turkey stood at $206.7 million.

Turkey is Tajikistan's fourth largest export partner. More than $285 million in Turkish capital was attracted into the country's economy in 2007-2024, including $151.6 million in foreign direct investment.

During the meeting, the Tajik side presented opportunities for creating joint industrial enterprises and implementing investment projects in the country's free economic zones. Special attention was paid to cooperation in the textile industry, agricultural processing, production of building materials, pharmaceuticals and the introduction of modern technologies.

Following the talks, the parties confirmed their interest in further expanding trade and economic and investment cooperation.
