Italy increases gas imports from Azerbaijan 3.4% in Jan-May

BAKU. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Supplies of natural gas from Azerbaijan to Italy via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) amounted to 4.06 billion cubic meters in January-May 2026, up 3.4% year-on-year, according to materials from the Italian Environment and Energy Security Ministry.

Overall, Italy imported 25.94 bcm of natural gas in January-May, up 2.4% YoY. Azerbaijan accounted for 15.6% of total imports in the reporting period.

In May, Azerbaijan supplied 832 million cubic meters of gas to Italy via the TAP (+3.8% YoY). Azerbaijani gas accounted for 15.7% of total supplies to Italy in that month (5.28 bcm).

In 2025, gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Italy via the TAP amounted to more than 10 bcm, down 3.3% compared to the previous year. Azerbaijan accounted for 16.3% of all supplies.

Azerbaijan began exporting gas to Europe on December 31, 2020.
