Rosselkhoznadzor to ban transit of poultry meat, byproducts from EU through Russia from Aug 5

MOSCOW. Aug 4 (Interfax) - The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) will introduce restrictions on the transit of poultry meat and byproducts produced by enterprises of the European Union through Russian territory from August 5.

"The decision was made in order to prevent the spread of epizootics and protect consumers, as well as in connection with the detection of illegal transportation of poultry byproducts allegedly of German origin through Poland," Rosselkhoznadzor said.

The cargo crossed the border of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in a vehicle with Polish license plates and transited through Russia to Uzbekistan using falsified veterinary certificates, Rosselkhoznadzor said.

"Based on the results of the analysis of Rosselkhoznadzor's information systems and the response of the German veterinary service, it was established that this product is of unknown origin. A request was also sent to Uzbekistan to identify the source of the illegal supplies, namely to establish the sender of the goods," Rosselkhoznadzor said.

Rosselkhoznadzor will permit the transit of products certified and shipped before August 5, inclusive, through Russian territory until August 6.

The restrictions will remain in effect until negotiations are held with the European Commission based on the results of the submitted investigation materials on the identified violations.
