Kazakhstan ships pilot consignment of mineral fertilizers to UK via Trans-Caspian International Transport Route

ASTANA. Aug 4 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan has shipped its first pilot consignment of mineral fertilizers to the United Kingdom via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, the national railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy said.

The 60-tonne shipment was moved in two 40-foot high-capacity containers, with 30 tonnes of cargo in each, the company told Interfax.

The cargo originated in the city of Ekibastuz in the Pavlodar region.

The delivery utilized rail and maritime transport across the Caspian Sea, passing through Azerbaijan and Georgia. From there, the shipment continued by sea via the ports of Poti and Batumi to the U.K. port of Felixstowe.

The company said its subsidiary KTZ Express was exploring further development of shipments along the route, taking into account market needs and demand from shippers.

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy is state-controlled and manages railway, sea port and airport infrastructure, as well as transport and logistics centers. The company aims to hold an initial public offering later this year to service its debt.
