Shipping between Russia, Brazil developing, trade growing - Patrushev

BRASILIA. Aug 4 (Interfax) - Maritime logistics between Russia and Brazil are developing and the trade turnover between the two countries is growing, with the mix of shipped goods expanding, Kremlin aide and head of the Maritime Collegium Nikolai Patrushev said after talks at Brazil's Ministry of Ports and Airports.

"Bilateral maritime logistics are gradually developing. The trade turnover between our countries is growing, the range of shipped goods is expanding, new container services are opening, and port administrations are gradually developing contacts," Patrushev said.

Maritime cooperation between Russia and Brazil dates back to the Soviet era, when an agreement on shipping was signed that enshrined the principle of most favored status for the two countries' vessels in one another's ports, he said.

"This agreement remains in force today, continuing to be a legal foundation on which modern partnership is being built. By the way, significantly, this is one of our oldest bilateral agreements with you," Patrushev said.
