Russia donates nearly 2,000 tonnes of food to Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK. July 31 (Interfax) - Russia has donated 1,755 tonnes of enriched flour and 202.3 tonnes of vegetable oil to Kyrgyzstan under the UN World Food Program, the Russian embassy press service said on Friday.

More than 5,800 families will receive the food in exchange for participating in projects to restore irrigation and water supply systems, reinforce riverbanks, plant trees, and perform other community service work.

Russia a major WFP donor in Kyrgyzstan. Over the past 15 years, the Russian government and WFP have jointly supported Kyrgyz communities through a wide range of activities from emergency relief and rehabilitation to development programs, including government initiatives such as improving nutrition for people with disabilities and a paid public works program.
