Russia capable of building LNG plants domestically and abroad - Gazprom

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. July 30 (Interfax) - Russia is capable of developing its domestic natural gas liquefaction industry as well as exporting technologies overseas.

PJSC Gazprom Deputy CEO Vitaly Markelov said in a presentation at the Sakhalin Energy 2026 forum that "the Russian Federation possesses all necessary competencies for designing and producing equipment and building LNG plants both within the country and overseas".

"Russian-made natural gas liquefaction equipment is being created. As of today, the Ust-Luga LNG plant is already being completed using our licensed Gazprom DMR equipment, made in Russia," he said.

"In June this year, a unique test bench was launched for Russian-made equipment - large-capacity refrigerant compressors. I only know of two such test benches worldwide. The third test bench has now been created in our country. This allows us to implement gas liquefaction projects on a large scale," Markelov said. JSC Kazancompressormash , part of HMS Group , has completed a project to build an assembly and testing facility for high-power compressor units used in LNG production in Kazan satellite city Zelenodolsk.

"Considering the necessity for Gazprom to develop offshore fields as quickly as possible, systematic efforts are being made together with the industry ministry and Russian producers to create Russian-made underground hydrocarbon production systems. Sakhalin has become the flagship in this, too. We have created unique technologies and competencies for the first time in the country's history. This will allow us to develop our offshore fields, including oil and gas fields in the north," Markelov said.
