Putin signs law to ratify agreement between Russia, Belarus on cooperating in area of precious metals, stones

MOSCOW. July 27 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law ratifying an intergovernmental agreement between Russian and Belarus on cooperating in the area of precious metals, precious stones, and precious metal products, and the government published the corresponding document on Sunday on the official portal of legal information.

This specifically involves the ratification agreement signed in Moscow on December 19, 2025, and ratified by Belarus in February.

The document envisages integrating Russia's GIIS DMDK jewelry marking system and Belarus' GIS Electronic Sign, mutually recognizing state assay marks and identification tools, as well as establishing uniform technical requirements for assay marks, hallmarking, and coating of jewelry.

Russian Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseyev previously said that all precious metals and stones, as well as jewelry made from them, as produced in Russia or Belarus, would be freely traded in both countries without additional controls or hallmarking once the agreement was ratified.
