Kazakhstan lifts restrictions on exports of cattle meat

ASTANA. July 17 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan has lifted restrictions on exports of cattle meat, and supplies sent abroad are now carried out without the application of a quota mechanism, the country's livestock union said.

"The order of the agriculture minister dated December 29, 2025, which established the procedure for granting quotas for the export of cattle meat, is no longer in force. In this connection, exports of cattle meat are currently carried out without the application of a quota mechanism," the association told Interfax.

Exports can be carried out by all agricultural producers and exporters in Kazakhstan without restrictions, subject to compliance with the requirements of current legislation, as well as the veterinary and customs requirements of the importing country.

As reported, the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry put into effect rules for the distribution of quotas for exporting cattle meat to third countries and states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in December 2025. The measure was introduced in order to eliminate export intermediaries, ensure the utilization of meat processing enterprises and stabilize beef prices.

The size of the quota per exporter depended on the capacity of the feedlot: with a capacity of 5,000 head it was set at up to 1,000 tonnes; from 10,000 head - up to 2,000 tonnes; from 15,000 head - up to 3,000 tonnes; from 20,000 head - up to 4,000 tonnes, and from 50,000 head - up to 10,000 tonnes.
