SOCAR completes exploration of seabed at Goshadash site in Caspian Sea
BAKU. June 25 (Interfax) - The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has completed engineering and geophysical surveys at the promising Goshadash site in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, Rashad Amrahov, senior geophysicist and geologist at SOCAR's geophysics and geology department, posted on social media.
"I am pleased to announce that the engineering and geophysical work conducted by SOCAR's Geophysics and Geology Department as part of the Goshadash project has been successfully completed," Amrahov posted.
Amrahov said that the assigned tasks were successfully accomplished despite the challenges encountered during project implementation.
"The complex and highly responsible task was completed safely and in full compliance with standards," Amrahov posted.
As reported, SOCAR began exploration of the seabed at the promising Goshadash site in March 2026. SOCAR's geophysics and geology department jointly with SOCAR Fugro carried out the work in preparation for marine seismic exploration using 3D Ocean Bottom Node technology, which deploys seismic sensors on the seabed to obtain 3D data on the subsurface structure.
The Goshadash site is located in the northeastern part of the Absheron Peninsula, approximately 15 kilometers from the coast. Sea depths in the area range from 10 to 50 meters.
Malaysia's Petronas and Russia's Lukoil have previously expressed interest in developing the structure.
