Preparation of feasibility study for Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Bulgaria energy corridor to start in 2026 - Bulgarian Energy Ministry

BAKU. June 3 (Interfax) - The participants in the initiative to create the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey-Bulgaria (AGTB) green energy corridor plan to begin preparing the preliminary feasibility study for the project this year, Bulgarian Deputy Energy Minister Kiril Temelkov said at Baku Energy Week.

"The project, initiated back in 2024 by the presidents of Azerbaijan and Bulgaria Ilham Aliyev and Rumen Radev [who stepped down in January 2026], will expand possibilities for transmission and trade of renewable electricity between the two regions. We are working intently on its implementation and plan to begin the preliminary feasibility study this year together with our partners from Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia," Temelkov was reported as saying by his ministry's press service.

Temelkov also discussed the implementation of the AGTB energy corridor project at a meeting with Azerbaijan's Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov.

"The parties confirmed their commitment to the next steps in the implementation of the AGTB energy corridor: initiation of an intergovernmental agreement between the four countries along the route of the project and development of a detailed roadmap for its preparation and implementation," the press release said.

In April 2025, the energy ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Bulgaria signed a memorandum on cooperation in the area of green energy, thus kicking off the project to create the AGTB energy corridor.

The new corridor will supply green energy from the Caspian region to Southeast Europe, specifically Bulgaria, as well as Romania and Hungary.
