Gazprom delegation visits China following Russian president's trip, confirms deliveries via Far Eastern route in Jan

MOSCOW. May 29 (Interfax) - A delegation of Gazprom visited Beijing "in furtherance of the contacts that took place during the official visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China," the company said.

This included a meeting between PJSC Gazprom Management Committee Chairman Alexei Miller and Dai Houliang, the chairman of the board of directors of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).

"The parties discussed the prospects for strategic cooperation in the gas sector. It was also noted that Russian gas supplies via the eastern route (the Power of Siberia gas pipeline) are being carried out reliably, with regular exceedance of Gazprom's contractual obligations," the press service said.

Russian gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline (the eastern route) began in 2019, six months ahead of the directive deadlines, under a long-term gas purchase and sale agreement between Gazprom and CNPC.

In February 2022, Gazprom and CNPC signed a long-term contract for the purchase and sale of natural gas via the Far Eastern route. Supplies will begin in January 2027, Gazprom said.

"The parties continue to work on new opportunities in the field of natural gas supplies," it said.

As reported, in 2025, Gazprom signed a legally binding memorandum with Chinese partners on constructing the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline to China and the Soyuz-Vostok transit gas pipeline through Mongolia with a capacity of 50 billion cubic meters per year. This project could become the largest in the global gas industry.

An agreement was also reached to increase supplies via the existing Power of Siberia mainline from 38 bcm to 44 bcm per year, and via the Far Eastern route (currently under construction) from 10 bcm to 12 bcm per year.
