Kazakhstan, IAEA sign roadmap for long-term nuclear cooperation through 2036

ALMATY. May 26 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan and the International Atomic Energy Agency signed a roadmap Tuesday to deepen cooperation in the nuclear sector through 2036.

The document was signed after talks between Almasadam Satkaliyev, head of Kazakhstan's Atomic Energy Agency, and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, who was in Astana on a working visit.

The roadmap sets out long-term priorities and creates a clear framework for joint projects across key areas of the nuclear industry, Kazakhstan's atomic energy agency said.

Satkaliyev and Grossi discussed the outlook for bilateral cooperation, the development of Kazakhstan's nuclear sector, and joint initiatives in nuclear energy, nuclear medicine, science and personnel training.

"Today's meeting builds on our agreements at the 69th IAEA General Conference, where we confirmed our readiness to prepare and sign a roadmap for deepening nuclear cooperation. The document signed today marks a shift from broad understandings to the systematic, practical implementation of shared priorities through 2036," Satkaliyev said.
