EU loan to cover two-thirds of Ukraine's expenditures in 2026, 2027 - Pentagon

WASHINGTON. May 19 (Interfax) - A 90-billion-euro ($105 billion) loan agreed upon by the European Union will be enough to cover two-thirds of Ukraine's expenditures in 2026 and 2027, the Pentagon said in its report.

The document, published on May 18, contains an International Monetary Fund (IMF) assessment that this loan "covers two thirds of Ukraine's overall financing needs for 2026 and 2027."

The EU plans to provide 45 billion euros (approximately $53 billion) to Kiev by the end of December 2026. Ukraine will receive the remaining part of the loan in 2027. At the same time, according to U.S. projections, Ukraine itself will be able to contribute approximately $67 billion to the budget in 2026. The Pentagon noted that without external assistance, this would fall short of the projected $114 billion in spending needs.

The U.S. Department of Defense said that projections of Ukraine's revenues and expenditures might change depending on the course of the military operations.
