Sovcombank becomes owner of 100% of insurer Kapital Medical Insurance
MOSCOW. May 19 (Interfax) - Sovcombank has become the owner of 100% of the medical insurer Kapital Medical Insurance (KMS), according to data from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities.
The change of ownership of the insurer took place on May 18.
Previously, the company Soyuz (controlled by Yevgeny Giner), which owned 100% of KMS, disclosed a potential buyer for this asset. At the end of December 2025, an option to conclude a purchase and sale agreement for 100% of KMS was signed with Sovcombank, according to Soyuz's reporting. The option could be exercised by the buyer during the period from February 5 to July 1, 2026.
In April, Sovcombank announced the acquisition of 100% of the insurance company Kapital Life Insurance (Kapital Life). The bank did not disclose from whom it bought this insurer, nor the size of the transaction.
The company Kapital MS has been operating in the compulsory medical insurance (CMI) segment for around 30 years, under this brand since 2018, and prior to that under the brand RGS-Medicine. According to data from the Central Bank of Russia, the company ranked second last year among CMI insurers in terms of the number of insured individuals and funds allocated for medical services.
The number of individuals insured by Kapital MS as of December 31, 2025, amounted to 21.9 million people (market share for this indicator: 15.4%), and funds allocated for medical care reached 529.9 billion rubles.
The total amount of funds allocated for medical care in the CMI segment involving Russian medical insurers with CMI licenses for last year, according to the Central Bank, reached 3.73 trillion rubles. This indicator increased 13.1% compared to the previous year.
