Uzbek, Serbian presidents discuss increasing trade, economic cooperation

TASHKENT. May 18 (Interfax) - The presidents of Uzbekistan and Serbia, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Aleksandar Vucic, discussed the prospects for further cooperation at a meeting on the sidelines of the thirteenth session of the World Urban Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan, Mirziyoyev's press office said.

Priority was given to increasing trade and drafting a cooperation program in machine building, manufacturing, the chemical and electrical industries, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, tourism and other areas.

The importance of further strengthening humanitarian cooperation was emphasized, including the organization of the first forum of rectors and mutual Days of Cinema and Culture.

The presidents also exchanged views on current international issues and reviewed the schedule of upcoming high-level events.

Mirziyoyev also held a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, at which they discussed the further strengthening and development of the Uzbek-Azerbaijani strategic partnership and alliance in the context of implementing the agreements reached during previous talks.

The importance of accelerating ongoing projects and expanding the joint investment portfolio was emphasized, including through funding from the Joint Investment Company. The presidents also discussed expanding cooperation in the implementation of transport initiatives and the development of international transport corridors.

The schedule of upcoming high-level events was reviewed.
